2011 CCD Leader Award for Geriatrics – Kevin Young

Kevin is currently a final year resident in the Geriatric Medicine training program at the University of Toronto. Prior to medical school he completed a PhD in the area of immunology at U of T, and subsequently attended medical school and residency in Internal Medicine at U of T. Kevin has a special interest in computers, having run a computer business throughout his training. His current interest in research involves using technology to facilitate continuing medical education, and to enrich communications with patients. In particular, he is working on an electronic tool to capture a geriatric history, with an emphasis on cognitive changes, in order to improve efficiency, teach learners how to take an effective history regarding dementia, and improve care by including a decision support tool, which will link to current practice guidelines and ensure that quality indicators for the care of patients with dementia are met. He has similarly designed apps for hypertension and cardiovascular guidelines.  When not working on e-tools, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at their cottage.
