Canadian Geriatrics Journal (CGJ) – the Scientific Journal of the CGS

Happy holidays!  We are currently publishing our fourth issue of our online “reboot” (literally) of the Canadian Geriatrics Journal.  The editorial board has been delighted with the quality of submissions and we look forward to continuing our initial progress through 2012.  Our initial goal was to have enough content to remain two issues ahead of ourselves, and we have successfully met that milestone in the first year of publication.  In order to increase our online footprint, we have also arranged to be the only journal to publish abstracts from the Canadian Conference on Dementia.  Hopefully the increase in traffic will help raise the profile of the journal and allow us to expand both our readership and our submission pool.  Over the next year we intend to try and further increase readership by having at least one “theme issue” with the intention of applying for indexing in 2013.  I would personally like to thank all who submitted articles, my associate editor (Dr. Mark Rapoport), and especially all of our members who provided peer reviews.

A Modest Beginning.......

Editor's notes

The first issue of the Canadian Geriatrics Society CME Journal is currently underway. We hope to have it on-line by the week of December 19th. Unlike the previous society journal which simply reflected an affiliation with a privately owned (and excellent) publication, this one is wholly controlled by the CGS. This means that our only purpose is to satisfy the educational needs of our members. As well, we will not be at the mercy of higher level corporate financial difficulties.

Although this issue is a modest beginning, we anticipate that it will become a key component of CGS' planned interactive educational program.

We certainly hope you enjoy this edition.
