A Career in Geriatrics!

Geriatrics is one of the most fulfilling and in demand career choices!  Find out why:
1) The first baby boomer turned age 65 in 2011.
-With our population living longer and the large contingent of aging baby boomers, there has never been a greater push to recruit Geriatricians and Care of the Elderly Family Physicians.  Many health authorities are lining up to hire new graduates, even in academically competitive institutions.
2) Geriatricians are consistently rated as some of the happiest and most satisfied of all doctors!
-Geriatrics ranks only behind Pediatric Emergency for the most-satisfied physicians.  Check out this University of California study for details.
3) Control is a good thing!
-Geriatricians have major control over their lifestyle since call duties are usually light or optional.
4) Want to become the head of medicine?
Because of their ability to think holistically and effectively run a team, Geriatricians are ideally suited to become successful administrators.  For example, the current Head of Medicine at UBC is a Geriatrician!
5) Be a pioneer!
-Because Geriatrics is a young and growing specialty, you will personally have the chance to to make a major impact on care of the elderly for years to come.  Junior staff often find themselves in a position to teach trainees, engage in research and develop programs right from graduation!
