That's A Wrap! #CGS2024Thank you to all of our delegates for attending this year's Annual Scientific Meeting in Calgary! A special thank you also goes out to our sponsors and exhibitors! We look forward to seeing everyone next year. CGS Official Press Release April 2024 Canadian Geriatrics Society 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting Showcases Advancements in Geriatric Care Calgary, Alberta - April 25, 2024 - The Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS) hosted its highly anticipated Annual Scientific Meeting from April 25 to April 27, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta. This prestigious event brought together over 300 leading researchers, clinicians, educators, and trainees in the field of geriatrics from across Canada to discuss and exchange groundbreaking insights, research findings, and best practices in geriatric care. Dr. Heidi Schmaltz and Dr. Vivian Ewa, co-chairs of the scientific event, highlight that under the theme ‘Enriching Lives: Geriatric Health in a Changing World’ the meeting is featuring 3 emerging topics critical to the care and well-being of older adults: new developments in mental health; opportunities with technology and artificial intelligence; and the impact of climate change on health care delivery. Older adults are the fastest-growing segment of the Canadian population, with 1 in 5 Canadians expected to be over the age of 65 within the next 20 years. Older adults are the highest users of the healthcare system and will soon exceed the working population. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, educational sessions, panel discussions, and poster presentations, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among multidisciplinary teams. Dr. Manuel Montero-Odasso, President of the Canadian Geriatrics Society, remarked, "The CGS Annual Scientific Meeting serves as a premier platform for advancing knowledge, innovation, and excellence in geriatric care. This year’s event has been particularly inspiring, with the Society continuing its commitment to core values of excellence, diversity and inclusion, anti-ageism, and fostering personalized clinical care for all older adults. Our core values will be key in carrying out our mission of fostering the growth of our workforce. Currently, older adults are becoming the fastest-growing segment of our population making Canada a super-aged country (countries with over 20% of the population 65 and older) however there is a clear shortage of Geriatricians and Care of the Elderly physicians across the country. An important goal of CGS is to try to close this gap by getting more physicians and early medical students interested in pursuing Geriatric medicine as a specialty.” The CGS extends its gratitude to all attendees, presenters, sponsors, and partners, including the Institute of Aging of CIHR, for their invaluable contributions to making the 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting a resounding success.
