B. Lynn Beattie Clinical Leadership Award
About
This award is named after Dr. B. Lynn Beattie, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and was first awarded in 2023. Dr. Beattie is a role model for geriatrics faculty, particularly young women. She was the founding head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at UBC and was co-director of the BC Network for Aging Research. Dr. Beattie is a renowned researcher and academic geriatrician and was recognized for her work in aging and dementia with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Overview
This award recognizes a member of the Canadian Geriatrics Society who has made a significant and lasting contribution to clinical leadership in geriatrics or the care of older adults. It’s not intended to celebrate “lifetime achievement,” but rather to recognize valuable clinical leaders in Canada who demonstrate leadership and excellence in patient care, clinical administration, education and mentorship.
Deadline
Applications open September 29, 2025.
Criteria and eligibility
The candidate must be (1) a geriatrician or physician providing care to the elderly and (2) a member of the Canadian Geriatrics Society.
Nomination Process
Applicants should submit the following package to cgs@secretariatcentral.com . Receipt of the email will be confirmed.
1) Application form
2) Three letters of support (including one from a patient, caregiver, allied health care provider, or community organization)
3) Candidate’s CV
Note : All documents must be submitted in English, or a translation must be provided.
Selection Process
CGS Awards Committee will review applications and recommend a recipient for the award to the CGS Executive. Candidate’s contributions in the areas of patient care, clinical leadership, advocacy for geriatrics, mentorship, and administrative leadership will be considered. If there are no suitable winners, the committee reserves the right not to present the award in any given year.
Recognition of the winner
The award recipient will be announced at the 2026 CGS Annual Scientific Meeting in Montreal, Quebec. The recipient will receive 2 complimentary tickets to the CGS Gala Dinner.
