Ronald Cape Distinguished Service Award
ABOUT
Awarded to a member of the Canadian Geriatrics Society who has made enduring and outstanding contributions to the healthcare of older adults in Canada while advancing the mission of the CGS.
BACKGROUND:
This award is named for Dr. Ronald Cape a pioneer in the field of geriatric medicine. Dr. Cape established one of Canada’s first academic geriatric programs at the University of Western Ontario at Parkwood Hospital in 1975. In 1978 he published the textbook Aging: Its Complex Management which has chapters that focus on the topics of falling, confusion, incontinence, impaired homeostasis, and iatrogenic disorders. He co-founded the Canadian Society of Geriatric Medicine in 1981 and served as the first president. He was awarded the British Geriatrics Society 50th Anniversary Medal in 1997.
CRITERIA AND ELIGIBILITY
The candidate must be (1) a geriatrician or physician providing care to the elderly and (2) a member of the Canadian Geriatrics Society.

SELECTION PROCESS
CGS Awards Committee will review applications and recommend a recipient for the award to the CGS Executive. Candidate’s contributions in the areas of patient care, leadership, research, teaching, and administration at local, provincial, national and international levels will be considered. As well, contributions to the work of the CGS will be assessed. If there are no suitable winners, the committee reserves the right not to present the award in any given year.
RECOGNITION OF THE RECIPIENT
The award winner will be announced at the CGS Annual Scientific Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, in 2026. The recipient will receive complimentary registration to the 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting.

Chaque année, la Société canadienne de gériatrie remet un prix lors de sa Réunion scientifique annuelle pour reconnaître une personne qui a apporté une contribution exceptionnelle aux soins de santé des personnes âgées au Canada. Nous acceptons les mises en candidature pour le Prix de service émérite Ronald Cape.

Les candidatures doivent être envoyées au plus tard le 13 janvier 2026.

Processus de mise en candidature
Le comité des bourses examinera les candidatures et recommandera un lauréat à l'exécutif de la SCG. S'il n'y a pas de lauréats appropriés, le comité se réserve le droit de ne pas remettre la bourse au cours d'une année donnée.
Reconnaissance du lauréat
Le lauréat du prix sera annoncé lors de la réunion scientifique annuelle 2026 de la SCG, au Montreal, Quebec. Le récipiendaire recevra une inscription gratuite à la réunion scientifique annuelle 2026.
